How can I get access to the new Magic software?
You must click on the Go to MAGIC link, located in the MAGIC website upper right corner, and follow the instructions to sign up as a new user. Remember to write down your answer to your secret question; it will be necessary in case you forget your password.
If I already had a MAGIC Plus username and password, must I sign up again for the new MAGIC?
This is a new version of MAGIC, so you must sign up again. Your old username and password no longer work in this new platform.
Do I have to pay to get access to the new MAGIC?
ECLAC is providing this software with no cost to facilitate analytical trade tools. You only need to sign up.
I forgot my username or password; how can I recover them?
You must click on the link Go to MAGIC, located in the MAGIC website upper right corner, click on "Forgot your password?", and follow the instructions to recover it. Your answer to your secret question is necessary to recover your password.
Do I need special software to use the new MAGIC?
No, MAGIC works on any web browser, including tablets and movile phones. However, it is recommended to install the latest version of Apple Safari, Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, for better software performance.
Does the new MAGIC work on any operating system?
Yes, the new MAGIC works on any operating system with a web browser installed. It is also highly recommended to have a good internet connection for better software performance.

What kind of data do I get through Magic Plus?
The new MAGIC provides data on the value and volume of all exports and imports of the Central American countries, Mexico, the United States, and the European Union countries. Based on this information, MAGIC provides trade profiles and competitiveness trade analysis. Additionally, it reports data on transport in some markets and tariff and duties rates in the United States market.
What is the source of the data?
The data come from: • The United States Census Bureau, for the United States market. • The Central America Secretariat for Economic Integration (SIECA), for the Central American markets. • The United Nations International Trade Statistics Database (Comtrade), for the Mexican and the European Union markets.
What is the time-series data in MAGIC?
MAGIC Plus contains annual data since 1990 from Mexico, the United States, and the European Union; and since 1994 from the Central American countries.
What is the tariff classification used to report data?
Trade data is classified according to the Harmonized Commodity Description and Coding System (Harmonized System, HS), at a disaggregated level of 2, 4, 6, and up to 10-digit levels for the United States market.
Can I download the data?
Data can be downloaded in CSV format and graphics as an image.
Can I create my groups of countries and products?
Yes, you can create your own country or product groups. However, you must consider that the data reported will be that of the whole group and not individual countries.

How can I train in the use and interpretation of the new MAGIC?
We are offering online courses and diverse materials that you can view and request on the "Support materials" section.
Can I register myself to receive updates and news on MAGIC?
Yes, you should register yourself in the newsletter section, and you will receive the MAGIC news via e-mail.
MAGIC's issues
A Server Error in ‘/’ Application appears.
This error occurs because the system is attempting to access data that is either unavailable or corrupted. Clearing the server history and retrying should resolve the issue.
Upon completing a query, the MAGIC system shows the message "No information available."
It is possible that MAGIC has not yet updated the changes from the initial query. Please try rerunning the query to retrieve the correct information. If the issue persists, please contact us at magic@cepal.org so we can address and resolve it as soon as possible.
